IVC Filters – Emerging Litigation

An inferior vena cava (IVC) filter is a spider-like wire device that is implanted in the largest vein in the body to catch blood clots before they get into the lungs. When temporary filters are not removed, they can fracture, migrate, perforate internal organs (ie heart, lungs) and cause other deadly side effects such as cardiac tamponade, DVT and pericardial effusion.
