Nursing Home Care

Infected Ulcers and Pressure Sores
$240,000 Florida Settlement

A 76 year-old woman was admitted to a Fort Lauderdale nursing home with very small pressure sores. She subsequently developed an infected wound over the medial left first dorsal joint measuring 3 by 3/4 inches, infected wounds on both heels measuring 1 1/2" to 2" in diameter, and two areas of pressure sores on the dorsal of the right foot. The sores festered and infection developed and spread. A medQuest geriatric care expert reported the nursing home and physicians provided negligent care for the plaintiff. He indicated liability in several areas including infectious diseases which greatly contributed to the settlement.
